Version 1.1.3 Released

February 19th, 2011
Version 1.1.3 has been released and primarily fixes the major issues found in 1.1.2. It also includes experimental USB DVD support added by clava. Your mileage may vary with this feature! Full changelog:

  • Synced to MPlayer r32866
  • Fixed crash for some USB drives
  • Added option to change screensaver delay
  • Fixed incorrect warning about picture sizes being > 6MB
  • Improved network initialization routines
  • Improved subtitle scaling calculations
  • Improved shutdown – if WiiMC fails to shut down within 5 seconds, shutdown will be forced
  • Experimental USB DVD drive support (thanks clava!)
  • Other minor optimizations and improvements

I had homebrew 1.0.6 installed so I’ve installed ios58-64-v6154 and updated hb (via hackmii) to 1.0.8.
When I tested wiiMC, everytime I tried to load the dvd or to play a file from sd I’ve got this problem:

    Thanks in advice.

PS: when I use wiiMC 1.1.2 instead of 1.1.3 it’s working great, but only when I load the dvd it’s showing all the files from that dvd and it freezes.
    Can you solve this?

1.1.3 is crashing everytime I try to browse shoutcast radio stations. 1.1.2 worked much better for me it would only freeze after I changed the station a lot.

Thanks for all the hard work

I can’t help you unless you provide a photo of the crash screen or the STACK DUMP section transcribed. Please file a bug report with those and the details of how you make this happen and I’ll have a look. As it is, I can’t reproduce this.

    Hi,

    – When updating automatically, does that always erase the setting file ? Can you setup an option to deactivate the option and to do it manually ?
    – Is that normal that .mkv file run slowly for 5 sec after caching, and I get problem with 720p/1080p (x264) files (LAG), does that come from the ATI from the Wii is that upgradable with more caching or no ?
    – Can we setup a search module or rearrange files By Type, Date, Name, Size ?

Thank You. And Hope for Great work šŸ™‚

    Hi,
I just upgraded 1.1.2->1.1.3. And now when i go to Online Media, it opens YouTube by categories, I think it is last place where i was in Online Media with 1.1.2. And when I try to do “Up to upper level” it crashes. I can provide photo of crash screen later if needed.

The Wii doesn’t have the hardware power to decode and display 720p/1080p (Full HD) H.264 content. You CAN display H.264 content as long as its not higher dimensioned than 640×480, but the Stream and Video Bitrate are also important factors.

Even from an upgrade from version 1.1.2 even from clean install this version always crash STAMP DUMP etc.. wen I click “upper folder” in web content (results of shoutcast radio or youtube search). I have spanish Wii and CIOS 3.7
    Using again 1.1.2
Althought this thank you for this amazing job of porting mplayer to my wii !!!!

As for USB external DVD playback, I very much welcome this option, as I have two of these drives to experiment with. I have one with RPC-2 autoreset patched firmware, and another with RPC-1 hacked firmware. I will repost back when I’ve tested with different region-coded DVD’s and let you know the results! Hopefully this will help anyone with DVD-less internal drives on their Wii’s. In theory, my RPC-1 hacked drive should play all DVD’s fine, but the RPC-2 autoreset drive may have problems as the region changes back each time it is powered down, and WiiMC doesn’t have a region changer. In future releases you could include a region change and countdown timer to change the region, as these drives still need manually setting from the PC before being plugged into a Wii (and of course my RPC-2 autoreset one will make this impossible as it only remembers the last region that was set before being hacked!).

I’ve been using WiiMC for months now to play an mms stream (it’s a great homebrew app, guys). I just updated to 1.1.3 and when I try to load the stream it says “error loading file”. I redownloaded 1.1.2 and the mms stream is working again.

add me to the list of crashes with 1.1.3 – “Up to upper level” consistently crashes in Online Media. Going back to 1.1.2…..

Same here about the crash on “Up to upper level” in “Online Media” but only when I try to go back to the first level.

    Hi,
@HollowRider, In comparaison with WDTV (WesternDigital) link: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/homeentertainment/mediaplayers/
In Resolution Tab : Full HD 1080p; does this material read HD file, Im estonished because the Wii should be more powerfull that a simple WDTV… or it also has a powerfull graphic card ? Can you enlight me ?
last update : -metadata for music files, -Enhanced cover art, album art, and thumbnail support for media files and folders.
    cheers.

    @Jx
That’s the difference between generic application hardware, and application specific hardware. Set-top media players like the WDTV has a processor that has circuitry dedicated to handling the video decoding process. The Wii on the other hand has no such dedicated hardware and accomplishes the video decode via software routines that are processor loading.
Thumbnail support and album art would be cool additions, but I think that managing such in limited RAM might be quite the juggling act. Especially displaying album art for large music libraries.

  21. February 22nd, 2011 at 08:44 | #21

I’ve the same ‘up one level’ problem. I’ve found that using the trigger button to go back will prevent it from crashing.

    Hi staff of WiiMC!!!

Thanks for the incredible job you do. By now WiiMC is the best media player for Wii!!!

Would you add an option to delete files from the media player? I’m not asking for a full file browser, just to delete files, because i use to download lots of video and image content, and i load it to the usb disk, then i watch it, and if i don’t like it, i would like to delete it right away from the player instead of quitting the player and loading a file browser, when most of the time i forgot the path and the file i was watching…

I hope you may consider that suggestion!

    Keep up that wonderful work!

    Claudio

Can this version handle .mp4 file? I tried playing this type of file but video hangs while audio continues. Also, all controls become disable – so have to manually power reset the Wii.

    Hey Guys,

Just want to say that you guys ROCK!

WiiMC is an awesome bit of kit and it works brilliantly. I was looking for a solution aside from building a full blown media PC and WiiMC is perfect.

Yeah, it “stacks” it using the online media but I mainly use it for video, music and photos so no dramas there. I’m sure you’ll sort it out in a future release.

    Keep up the good work!

hello, IĀ“m now testing this latest version 1.1.3
but I found a problem when I tried to play a dvd .iso file from usb
I can open it, the menu looks okay and then the chapters plays ok, too.
but the problem is that I canĀ“t choose the audio and/or subtitle from the menu…it plays always the same option (germany in my case, whan in the iso file I have at least 4 audios)

IĀ“m doing something wrong or itĀ“s a problem in the new WiiMC version?
    thanks for all your work!

Guys, why did you remove the alpha keyboard from the network settings page (Share IP)? This was a terrible decision by forcing us to use numeric IPs. My IP changes a lot so I’d prefer to put in the dns name (my computer name which doesn’t change). Please restore this functionality pronto. Otherwise I have to keep going into the settings a whole bunch and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Thank you!

I’ve been having an issue with Youtube videos myself, maybe 1 in ten will play. Otherwise I get an error loading the file (search works fine though!), then after a couple tries at random videos I either give up, or I get a stack dump. WiiMC is a fantastic program, can’t wait for the next version which will hopefully fix all this! Keep up the good work guys šŸ™‚
