    Just spent a couple of hours enabling debugging levels and sniffing packets and trying to figure out why a Samba update broke WiiMC’s ability to connect.
    Long story short, it’s an easy fix once you know what’s wrong. WiiMC is apparently trying to use the old Lanman authentication method and Samba now disables Lanman by default, as it’s insecure — the passwords are easy to crack.
    You can switch it back on in your smb.conf by adding the option:
    lanman auth = yes

    Once that’s set and the server restarted, everything works fine again. (Now I just have to be careful that nobody cracks the blank passwords on my guest account!)
