I just find it strange that the exact same files (Tested on tens of different files from different sources, but all are SD resolution, mp4, H.264) that WiiMC lags with, plays fine on MPlayerCE 100% of the time.

I also use MPlayer-CE to play some H.264 encoded MP4 files through SMB that stutter a lot (and are constantly buffering) in WiiMC but that on MPlayer-CE play just fine! 🙄

I plan to make some patches to added some features when I get the time/energy.

That would be great! Have you found the time/energy to add them yet? 😉

rodries had been working on improving the performance but those changes haven’t been released – perhaps he never found the time to fully finish it.

That would also be extremely useful! Do you know if he ever finished it?
If not, even if incomplete, he should release it along with some tips about his plans, so other developers could continue his nice work! 😎

Could it be, that loading a .avi file sets some value that then allows the .mp4 file to play normally

I can confirm this too in some files! Did someone ever found the root of this bug and fix it?

Also, I found an interesting commit to the MPlayer-CE source (r642):

Added paired single optimized H.264 plane prediction.

Could this paired-single optimizations be the reason why MPlayer-CE is faster on such files? 🙄
And was this ever implemented in WiiMC too? 😛

Just some quick but useful tips for newbies… 😎 💡

To get your IP Address, press Win+R, type cmd, run ipconfig and get the first address that looks like this: 192.168.???.???

Also, if you’re getting a “File not found” error on WiiMC after waiting for about a minute or so, go to “Network and Sharing Center -> Windows Firewall -> Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall -> Change settings” and check if the “VLC media player” entry has a check mark before it.

And finally, on VLC you may need to click on “View -> Add Interface -> Web“.

    It worked for me!
I hope this also helps someone else out there! 😉

Maybe updating to the latest revision of ffmpeg would have some slight speed improvements, since there’s been a lot of updates to the H.264 decoder, and the last time WiiMC updated that library was on June 2012! 🙄 😛

The back button does not fix it, it just resyncs at the back point and audio desync starts at 0 and gradually increases until it becomes noticeable again.

I don’t understand much about the H.264 codec, but isn’t there a way to bypass some video frames in order to compensate for the audio delay? 💡 🙄 ❓

This has been explained many times. Any video over 640 wide and in particular h264 will start to demand more resource to decode than the wii can offer thereby slowing the video while the audio plays normally and the sync will get progressively worse. Some videos up to 854 wide will play OK but beyond that width they all seem to slow down.

Isn’t it possible to have some sort of auto frame skipping option to compensate for the audio desync problem on .MP4 files? 🙄
It’s because the back button trick that I mentioned sometimes fixes it, so I it doesn’t seem a matter of processing power in that case! 😕

I noticed that H.264-coded MP4 files will go out of sync (audio lags video), whereas the Xvid avi’s did not – they played right through without issue.

My evaluation/test was season 7 of Bones – the format changed from epi6 to 7

When watching H.264 files I could get audio to sync back…sort of… if I stopped watching ( returning to file list) and going back into same video.

    S~

This happens to me too all the time! 🙁
But then I press back/left on the Wiimote to go back a couple of seconds and this fixes the audio/video sync! 😉
    Well… at least for a while! 😛

    Just a quick (not sure if off-topic) question… 🙄 😉
Does the maximum supported resolution of WiiMC increases (or at least improves picture quality) if we use the Wii Component Video Cable

instead of the normal Wii A/V Cable

and set the TV Resolution to HDTV in the Screen Settings

    ??? 🙄 😛

    Here’s my logfile too! 😉
But I faced a problem while running the USB Test Tool… 🙁
Some of the times when I unplugged my HDD, it made a weird sound like when there’s a power failure and the HDD shuts down abruptly! 😯

I have the same problem in WiiMC… 🙄
If I am running it and I turn off the Wii, it makes that disturbing sound too… 😕
But If I wait at least around 15 seconds from the last HDD access (light blink), it shuts down quietly! 😛
I don’t think it’s an HDD issue, because from inside Windows, I can access the HDD, do that “Safely remove hardware” stuff and unplug the USB cable in less than 5 seconds, and it doesn’t make any sound at all! 🙄

Anyway, do you think these USB tests will help solve this problem, too? 😀
Keep up the great work! 😎
