    Hi all, I have been using my old laptop as my WiiMC video server. I want to convert a few old DVDs to a format that is most suitable for WiiMC to play smoothly. Can I get some recommendations as to what resolution I should shoot for and whether to go with h264, xvid, divx, etc? Most of the videos I have now are xvid and they play fine. I know h264 is supposedly better but, I also understand that it may push the Wii processor a bit much to decode it. Thanks for any advice!

    h264 is only “better” in the sense that it produces smaller files. It’s worse for WiiMC because smaller files typically means a more CPU-intensive codec – which is the case for h264. My personal opinion is that your best bet is divx.
