    i’ve the following setup:
    – softmoded wii 4.1e running fine with wired network.
    – linksys wrt610n v2 with latest dd-wrt beta (has a build in samba and proftp,
    both running)
    – a wd 2tb hdd pluged @ the linksys.

the samba and proftp run fine on my linksys. my win xp, ubuntu and win2k3
can use the samba-share and the ftp.
i’ve tried mplayer ce, which didn’t connect to my samba but to the ftp.

the network in wiimc is stable (i tried youtube and some shoutcast tv).
but it doesn’t want to connect to samba or my ftp.
the smb and ftp function refuse connecting with an simple error, which
doesn’t help me analysing the problem…

maybe someone has an equal or simular setup which runs well and can
    gimmie the needed hint…

    Click on Start. Choose Run.

Type in what you see below:

\ IP ADDRESS (this is the IP address where the share is located on your network – no space after the \)

A window will open and if you see the share in that window – then all you need to do is type the IP and the share name in the share settings for the WiiMC.

That’s all I did to get mine working.

If you do not see the share in that window – you need to resolve that first.

Actually I would not use windows to try to trouble shoot the issue unless you have to. A better idea might be to use a livecd (Ubuntu for example), which is a closer approximation to WiiMC than windows.

If you boot from a livecd, you can run

    smbclient -L routerIP -U guest

Then when prompted for a password, leave it blank and press enter.

If it is setup to give guest access then you should see a list of shares, if it is not then you could see nothing or possibly an error. If you plan on using it with a particular user/pass then change guest to the user you want to use and type the password when prompted.
