Whenever I have a DVD movie in the drive, if I accidentally select “Data DVD” from the root menu list (in the same list where the SD card and USB devices and SMB connections are listed) rather than the DVD Movie icon at the top of the screen, WiiMC code dumps. This happened to a friend of mine whose Wii I softmodded as well, and he didn’t even know the DVD Movie button existed so he always tried the Data DVD menu option and could never get a DVD movie to run. I finally tracked it down to this being the issue, and confirmed it on my own Wii. Both of our Wiis are old enough to have DVD-capable drives, and are running the latest WiiMC (1.1.1) from the latest forwarder (same results when launched from HBC 1.0.8).
