Having trouble getting VLC Shares to work

I just installed Homebrew and WiiMC tonight and everything went smoothly. I am now trying to get VLC Shares to work but I keep getting stuck at my Wii. I followed all of the setup guides here, https://code.google.com/p/vlc-shares. After I got everything setup I put my SD card back into my Wii, launched WiiMC and I saw a directory called “VLC Shares”. I click on it, but I get an error that says “Error Loading File”. I have no idea what it could be.

Just to make sure I didn’t miss anything, I followed the automatic installation here,

I then went through the Third Party Software installation here,

For this step I want to use my “Default Gateway” correct? As in, start/cmd/ipconfig then what is listed under default gateway?

No, you have to put the IP of the pc where vlc-shares is installed inside the onlinemedia.xml, not the gateway’s one.

Ah, that worked thank you! Unfortunately, now I am stuck again, haha. I can now access the “VLC Shares” folder, and start the streams through it, but when I go to watch them, I get that same “Error Loading File” message.

For example, I go through VLC Shares/Hulu.com/TV Shows/A/Aeon Flux Season 1 Episode 1/Start VLC Stream. It then loads for a second and brings up a new menu that has a few options like “Go to stream”, “Stream options”, and “Shutdown VLC”. When I clicked “Go to stream” or “Back to stream” it buffers for maybe a half a second, then says “Error Loading File!”. I then have to press “Shutdown Stream”.

I know its doing something on my PC’s end because the first time I tried it I checked my PC and it was asking for permission to run the RTMPDump plugin. I clicked “Run” and unchecked the “Ask for permission to run this program” button, but still no luck.

It’s not just Hulu either. I can’t get any of the VLC Shares plugins to work.

Here is the Apache error log. It appears that maybe its having a hard time finding the correct files?

check rtmpdump version (required 2.4+ for hulu), double check 🙂 that you set the correct rtmpgw.exe path in the configuration page (RTMPGW.exe, not rtmpdump.exe. it’s in the same folder). check if vlc path is correct too.

if you still has problem: enable the debug log (and set to lvl to ALL), then reproduce the problem and post here debug log file (you can download the system report from the vlc-shares’s test page)

Yep that was it, thank you so much! I still notice a couple of the shows I was checking on Hulu give me the error, but a large majority of them work. I’ve also noticed that there is a lot of content missing? Is that all normal?

Yes but a lot of the free content is missing too. The Outer Limits (both the new and the old series), ALF. I know there is more. I’ll go check here i’m a few minutes and add to that.

EDIT: You know what I just realized? There is no free hulu material available. Its all the hulu plus material, lol. How is that possible? I though you couldn’t get h+ material through VLC shares without a special plugin that you had to pay for. I also just realized I never downloaded a hulu plugin or anything. It was just there. I’m not exactly sure how this happened… I tried to download the plugin but I couldn’t figure it out.

EDIT 2: Scratch that, it actually says I have the Hulu plugin installed so I guess at some point I did figure it out. It is showing up under my list of plugins on the VLC Shares management page (http://localhost/vlc-shares/manage). I wonder why only the H+ stuff is showing up for me… Any ideas?

You installed hulu plugin when (in the installation process) you checked the hulu plugin box…

Then: hulu plugin fetch all contents from hulu plus pages (and i though hulu free and hulu plus contents was listed both, but i was wrong).

By the way: no payment is required.
Hulu plus account is unsupported from hulu plugin and this will not change until someone else will submit a patch for it. I can’t work for it, i’m not us resident and i don’t have an hulu plus account.
Real-debrid plugin (that allow to watch hulu plus content too, even for not-us residents) requires to be owner of a real-debrid account (so you have to pay for their services). I’m not affiliate in any way with those guys, vlc-shares has a real-debrid plugin because i got a real-debrid account in the past and i use it. All features of vlc-shares are available for free, source code is available too.
Donations or patches are the only ways to support the project and donators don’t get any special-hidden-feature-or-special-plugin for vlc-shares, only my thanks.

Ok, if I understand this correctly, what your saying is hulu plus is not supported by the hulu plugin for VLC shares, right? If I want to watch hulu plus I need a real-debrid account and the real-debrid plugin. But that’s just it, I don’t have a real-debrid account, and I don’t have the real-debrid plugin, but I can only see hulu plus content on VLC shares for some reason.

hulu plugin for vlc-shares read hulu+ contents list (http://www.hulu.com/plus/content) and show them inside vlc-shares. This doesn’t require any hulu+ account. You can browse it with the browser. To watch contents available only for hulu plus users, is required real-debrid plugin + real+debrid account. Without it, you can browse all hulu plus content, but you can watch ONLY contents that can be watched with a normal browser. Hulu plugin only make this available for the wii.

the hulu channel that can be downloaded from the wii shop has nothing to do with this.

Ok, we are saying the exact same thing. I know I can’t watch Hulu Plus content without a real-debrid account and the plugin, but that is what I am getting at, I CAN. I can ONLY watch Hulu Plus content. The Hulu free content isn’t showing up in my VLC Shares.

Like I said, we are saying the same thing. No matter what is going on, I should be able to view and play Hulu free content, correct? I can’t. When I turn on my Wii, go to the Homebrew channel, go to WiiMC, go to VLC shares, and go to Hulu, it ONLY shows me Hulu Plus shows and NO Hulu free shows.
