I just tried to play a movie via SMB and got the message:

    Please Wait: Initializing network.

The problem is, that it doesn’t initilazie. I guess the SMB is not working and it doesn’t time out. I can still use the Wii pointer, but can’t stop it or exit the program. You should make a time out request, maybe 30 seconds, so that it stops initalizing.

    Please use V1.0.1
Check if the SMB share is accessible via another PC.
Check if Wii Settings are correct.

I am using 1.01, and SMB works finde 99% of the time. I got this problem just one single time and had to shut down my Wii.

Yes I know, I tried to re-create it, too. But it happened only once. I don’t know why, but anyway WiiNC should automatically time out if it can’t connect so that it won’t freeze.

No, the error is what it says – an issue with initializing the network adapter, not an issue with connecting to SMB. Sometimes this happens on the Wii, whether it’s on the Wii Shop channel or WiiMC.
