Power button crashes WiiMC

Whenever I press the power button on the Wii (not the remote) while in WiiMC’s menu, the USB drive dismounts and WiiMC freezes. The only way to exit WiiMC after that is to press and hold the power button for several seconds to completely shut off the Wii.

Silly way to shut it off because your WIIMC final settings are not saved.

Actually, pushing the power button should save the settings – it should be functionally equivalent to using the power button on the wiimote.

Crashing is a different matter, it’s not supposed to do that. I have a different problem – on my one Wii it shuts off fine, on the other nothing happens when I press the power button.
