Video Over SMB

Wow this one has been such a headache and I don’t know where to begin.

Wii system menu 4.3
HBC 1.0.8 IOS 61 v 22.29
Have upgraded to WiiMC 1.0.9
Source of files Windows Vista

SMB is configured correctly and I am able to see all my folders and files. Can even launch video files. The problem comes in playback

The time varies but eventually in every file I attempt to play the video garbles and stops playing, while the audio continues, after a short higher pitched bleep.

As a side not video playback works just fine in MPlayer CE 0.76

Any thoughts or suggestions that might help would be greatly appreciated

I was having the same problems. It still happens to me on occasion, but not nearly as bad as it was.
I think my problem was related to my wireless router. I was using the cheap one that my ISP provided, but I added in a D-Link wireless router. This seemed to clear up the problem for the most part. It has happened to me only a couple of times lately, where before it would happen almost every time.

Running a Linksys WRT54G2. It’s nothing fancy but linksys has always had good quality components. I think what boggles me more is that I run in Mplayer CE with no problems what so ever. It’s a rare occasion when a full length feature movie pauses to buffer, so why in WiiMC can i not make it even 5 minutes in to the same video.

Oh one more side note. All video is Xvid encoded, resolutions vary, and I’m not sure what the typical one is as I am not at that computer right now

I have the exact same problem, however, for me, this has only started happening since the most recent update of WiiMC. Before the update, I watched one film, which did not stop with the problem. This was an avi with the following specs:

These are the only ones I’ve tried so far, I’ll try the first file again to see if there is now a problem. I’m running Windows XP SP3. My router is a quite old but reliable linksys WRT54G.

Buy a USB LAN ADAPTER and stream over ethernet cable.

Solves these problems. Trust me!

Well looking at the bitrates that have been posted, I generally stay at 1000kbs or less total bit rate and rarely have an issue. I too am running a linksys router but with the dd-wrt firmware.

Well…

I think the issue is unstable wi-fi (could be small glitches) which cause many of the SMB issues.

Stable video streaming is best left for wired connections (as a general principle)…in my humble opinion…

The build posted in the reply to my post seems to be a lot more stable so far, no problems since using this version. Sorry it’s taken me a while to reply, I’ve been moving house!

I was having similar problems, and resolved them by setting “drop frames” to “auto” (it was set to “off”), under settings / video. It fixed a sound delay problem I was having.

But there were also some movies that were giving a debug/reload screen problem, and after this change they were still doing so. After, changing the “drop frames” configuration, I also renamed these movie files, and they stopped giving me the debug/reload screen.
