I could not get it to work for more than a single stream and “keep” would not keep the connection open. The good news is that this was an initial attempt at using VLC that has been built upon and is now available as “VLC-shares”. It will list the PC files in WIIMC and allow you to start the VLC transcode and stream from the WII. That’s the right solution.

No that link is to my initial implementation of a VLC stream. VLC-Shares builds on that to provide full VLC support.

leave username and password blank unless you set sharing on your PC to require them. You also need to set permissions to “Everyone” for both “sharing” and “security”.

So when you click on Data DVD, you get a crash instead of a directory listing? Or do you get a directory listing and crash when you open a file?

I assume on the PC that you get the directory listing when you click on your DVD device and that you can then open and play these files. I would suggest you setup your WII SMB to access your PC DVD and see if you can access the PC DVD directory and play the files that way.

If these all work then the WII should work with DATA DVD too. Mine works fine.

Depends on the video codec used. If it is an HD AVC file wider than 640 pixels and bit rate over 4000kbps, it is beyond the ability of the WII to play it. Use MediaInfo to get the specs of the file.

Better than a crash! But you need to verify that the files will play on your PC first. It is also important to use a quality DVD-R and not some cheap-o brand. I use Sony generally. You did use a -R correct? not a +R or RW?

Yes, that’s the symptom of an AVC file over 640 wide and bitrate exceeding the WII’s capability. The audio plays fine but the half speed video makes it seem out of sync. The solution is use VLC-Shares.

Wrong thread for this type of question.

Won’t matter where it is stored. Its a WII CPU problem.

That is a huge bit rate. Have you enabled framedropping? Its unlikely the WII can play at that bitrate unless it can drop at least half the frames. (standard DVD’s are 4000 kbps)
