    Well think about it…why would a line end with a – ?

You could even look arounda bit and see the official compiling instructions referenced in the first line of the guide. http://www.wiimc.org/compiling-instructions/

Alternatively you could click on select all and copy and paste into notepad, then click format and turnoff wordwrap and all will be revealed.

You can copy and paste into Mingw..click the icon in the upper left corner.

Thanks for posting this Atlanx. This 500GB Seagate GO is the drive I have purchased to replace my old failed USB HDD. Since my SD card slot is broken, I am unable to run the test, and I boot from a FAT32 partition on this drive, and read videos from the NTFS partition.

At first I found the FAT partition being overwritten by WIIMC, requiring a reformat and restore each time, but since I turned the “SLEEP TIME” from “3 minutes” to “Never” this has not reoccured. I also believe I have seen the same problem after a long video pause but I will test that further. It also takes 40-45 seconds to boot from the USB drive but this apparently is not a WIIMC fixable problem. Other than that the drive seems to work fine.

I am concerned about the failure of method 5 in the latest test:

    __usbstorage_IsInserted
    USB_GetDeviceList. device_count: 0
    USB Device NOT Compatible!!!
    USB2 device test method: 5

Can someone expain what this means? I need to decide if I am going to keep this drive or return it so I would appreciate knowing what the problem is. Thanks.

Jense..your post makes no sense..hundreds of users have the patch..and as the compile guide thread shows..people who have had problems explain them and get resolutions for their problems. You have never posted any problem or error message or asked for any help. There is no need to know anything “about about strings, booleans, parameters, classes, function, procedures and all the stuff”. Those that have precisely followed the simple steps in the guide and the enhancement pack release seem to have had no problem. Perhaps you are using the original guide that has gone thru a number of updates as the WIIMC requirements have changed.

The WIIMC authors allow and support the posting of patches, but the distribution of a .dol creates a derivative version of the application that would then require support that I cannot provide. The requirement to compile also implies that the user of WIIMC+ has a degree of skill that will allow them to utilize these enhanced features without support or further explanation. As you can see from the few posts there has been little need for further assistance.

There is nothing wrong with using standard WIIMC, but if you want to unleash the full capability of a MediaCenter why not post what you have done and your errors in the Compile Guide thread and ask for help?

I think I know what you mean but to clarify:
In 2. what do you mean by “copy the link to the video” ? Copy the link to where?
in 3. what do you mean by “my playlist’?
in 4 .what do you mean by “navigate to my playlist” Where and how?

I do all this with WIIMC using the features of the enhancement pack. Search Navi, save desired streamlinks or playlistlinks to savedlinks.xml on the PC, then move those links to custom folders in onlinemedia.xml also on the PC, then restart WIIMC and play the links from OLM custom folder. Other option is to manually copy thevideo links on the PC to an .m3u playlist and open it in Video mode to play the links.

The ability to play in real time depends on the speed of your link and the attributes of the video. If the link is too slow or the video is too “bitty” the WIIMC will buffer. Sometimes I use the enhancement pack option to display the video attributes before proceeding to play. That way I can make a rational decision. If the video is an AVC it will probably not play smoothly because it is too “bitty” (ie: the WII is not powerful enough to decode the stream into all the bits it needs to play). The “online codec” will usually play smoothly up to a pixel width of 640, so I set the enhancement pack options for AVC and OnlineCodec width to 640 and always get a warning message if the video exceeds those widths.

Cadeyrn: I am just a windows user with no affiliation with the developers. I published the windows guide to document what has worked for me, but I have no knowledge of Linux. You could post in other threads that talk about Linux compiles.

It should be clear from the Guide that the patch is applied to the WIIMC SVN source code using Turtoise and then compiled to create an enhanced dol. It has nothing to do with the standard downliaded WIIMC dol.

Because it is an AVC file with width > 640.

I have tested a number of my XVID avi’s both from SMB and USB attached drives with both 15 and 30 sec skips and they work fine. No freezes at seeking. Post one of your videos that won’t seek in a bugs report if you want to pursue this further. Use “partcopy” to clip the first 8 megs.

Nonsense. Go back and read the old SMB posts. For W7 just set “everyone” under both “sharing” and “security” and on your PC root drive only share subdirectories. USB drives can share root. No passwords required.

First thanks to Tantric for the detailed reply regarding these changes. Based on the results of this thread and my own results I will keep my Seagate Go 500GB drive. It is partitioned with a 2GB FAT for holding my WII Apps and the remainder for holding my video/audio library.

Others my benefit from knowing that this drive is on sale for $54.99 at this link until Saturday Jan 15 http://www.staples.com/Seagate-FreeAgent-500GB-Go-Portable-Hard-Drive-(black)/product_757896_HC2
While this is the previous model it is in a metal rather than plastic case, and without all the extra plugs and size of the new GoFlex. Rather than buy a 1TB drive, for the same price I now have 2-500GB drives which gives me backup of my backup, something I now realise I need since my old Seagate 300 GB backup/archive drive just died!

And no, I didn’t compile the latest sources of Wiimc to test this issue, the latest version that I tested was Wiimc 1.1.1, that is why I am hoping you to launch the new version soon… 😉

Try this compiled version & report: http://www.mediafire.com/?zp4oytj5ebdb1w5
Has been compiled with special flags to try to manage big files.

Are these special flags in the SVN’s yet? I would like to do this compile together with my patches.

Also what about these various USB changes. Are they in the SVN’s? Here is why I’d lke to know.

Based on the posted test results which seemed to work, I purchased a Seagate GO 500GB Portable USB drive. Since my SD Socket is broken, I cannot run the test, but with SVN742 this drive boots WIIMC correctly from any number of apps subdirectories and settings are written back correctly. (Note there is a 40+second delay while loading from USB – Is this part of the target fixes?). Since my Enclosure/Hitachi Drive will only boot if there is a single apps subdirectory, the new GO drive appears satisfactory. My concern is with the subsequent USB changes being made. If they impact the function of this new drive then I need to return it and get a drive that works..hence my need to compile and test WIIMC with the latest USB changes(since I can’t run the test with a broken SD card) to see if the GO drive still works.

Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated.

Well lots of people have used the guide without problems, so I can only suggest that you did not follow the instructions correctly. I would suggest you start the process over again and follow the steps exactly. Do not change anything! For example “open your C: directory and create a subdirectory WIIMC.” You decided not to do this and put your WIIMC in a programming subdirectory. I have no idea if it will work there, nor do I know what else you changed.

It holds the name of the onlinemedia folder or http:// playlist last loaded by WIIMC. If you leave OLM mode and go to Video, WIIMC will use this value to decide what to display whem you return to OLM mode. Other modes have similar settings. The value can be locked or with WIIMC+ used at startup or when the mode icon is clicked again.
