This implies that the WIIMC player is inferior to MPlayerCE and is the second post that claims MPlayerCE is able to play mpeg4 videos that WIIMC cannot. It would be nice to understand why WIIMC cannot do as good a job as MPlayerCE.

I’d like to know too. If you find out, let me know.

And if you prefer MPlayer CE over WiiMC, I’m not stopping you from using it. Personally I find WiiMC is “good enough” for my needs – so you won’t see me working on improving performance much. rodries will probably do some work in this area, however.

Yes, I’ll try to improve wiimc. The base is the same, in 1.1.0 we improve performance because we found that mem1 is needed by mplayer so Tantric & me improve mem stuff. Also we move bss to mem2 to have more space in mem1 for mplayer code.
I’d like that you test the mpeg4 videos with mplayerce r600 (http://mplayer-ce.googlecode.com/files/mplayer_r600.zip) because in r600 bss is in mem2 too, so we can compare it.
At now all my videos that play fine in mpce play fine in wiimc, I need a video that works fine in mpce but not in wiimc last beta. I only need 1 or 2 minutes, you can send the file to rodries _at_ wiimc.org.
Also Extrems is adding paired functions to ffmpeg so he is improving ffmpeg lib for the wii.
When he finish his great work I’ll port his code to wiimc.

    Tantric and Rodries,

I just noticed that Tantric made a change to fileopp.cpp in r665 that will try and mount the USB device for up to 5 seconds. Is there any chance you could release a beta7 so I can test my friends drive again? It would be greatly appreciated…

    Ok,
Thank you very much guys for your replies.
I’m gonna try to find some free time to have a look at this.
If i can “port” the live555 lib, do you think it could be integrate it into the main source tree ? If the answer is yes, in order to facilitate the integration what do you suggest, should i try to a POSIX-compliant wrapper or port the entire lib, or you just don’t care šŸ˜‰
    Thanks again,
    _G

Uhmm, if you do the POSIX-compliant wrapper maybe I can use it to add UPnP support to wiimc
it’s hard to do anything with network stuff

    Hi,

I can use WIImc without a problem, but the only problem i have is that when i want to use my portable 320gig 2.5″ HDD the whole thing crashes when it tries to read it. Can it be because it feeds on the usb power?

The disk is formatted as NTFS and works fine on windows and ubuntu.
Oh, and when i use an NFTS/FAT32 formatted USB flash drive it works normally.

    I’m using the version 1.1.0

thanks in advance and sorry if my english is bad ! šŸ˜›

    Try this beta: http://www.wiimc.org/files/wiimc_beta6.zip

seems none of the apps like my usb hard drive. i copied the apps folder from my sd card to my usb drive and none of my forwarders work, and hbc does not mount my usb drive. priiloader says can not mount fat volume. any ideas?

Of course, that change is in libogc not in wiimc, I’ve improved libogc with fattest tests and now that improve is in libogc but all applications need to be recompiled using last libogc including hbc.

About your problem using usb to load wiimc I guess it’s a time issue, probably ios58 need 1 or 2 secs to init the ehci module, . Try this new beta but I think is not going to work:

I have my own channel created forwarder and a boot.dol from their source of wiimc forwarder.
the channel forwarder I have given as start ios 58 and installed.
but there is always a problem with the HW_AHBPROT.
    how can I fix it?

You have to modify your tmd channel to enable HW_AHBPROT flag.

    Hi Rodries,

OK I have tested Beta4 first and second release and also Beta5 on my buddies Wii. He is running HBC ios58. All tests were done with no SD inserted only USB drive. The results are the same for all 3 releases. Here they are…

Wiimc from HBC with in meta.xml – Fails with ā€œCould not find a valid SD or USB deviceā€.
Wiimc from HBC without in meta.xml – Success mounts USB drive.
Wiimc from CF V1.5 with in meta.xml – Fails with ā€œCould not find a valid SD or USB deviceā€.
Wiimc from CF V1.5 without in meta.xml – Fails with ā€œCould not find a valid SD or USB deviceā€.

It is a mystery to me why removing from meta.xml allows the USB device to be detected when launching from HBC. It is even a bigger mystery to me why launching the app from the channel forwarder fails to detect the device with or without in meta.xml.

I have to leave my buddies now but I will check back tonight. I look forward to your reply and hope we can figure this one out. Thanks for all your hard work and support…

does wiimc work fine loading from sd with your usb device?

Ok, so, I downloaded WiiMC, thought it was the greatest thing since pizza, and then the next day my Wii stopped recognizing my games. Yes, I’m new to hacking, so I have no idea what I’m doing. Note: I have 4.3u, is that my problem? Also, I’ve deleted all of the channels I’ve gotten through hacking (homebrew, riivolution, ect.).

Nothing related to wiimc. Wiimc doesn’t install anything and wiimc recommend use official ios58, so it’s impossible that your problem is related to wiimc.

To do a good test with channel you have to switch off wii & usb device then switch on both, now launch channel.
I can see that the usb device is not initialized in the rigth way.
If the channel is not working with the wiimc installed on usb is probably because we need to update the forwarder in the channel. I’ll check it later.
    Please test this beta:
    xxxxxxxxx

    Edit:
Ok, I think I’ve found the bug, please test this beta:
